Getting started
Install on Windows
Stage Engine for Windows is a code-signed installer you download from flockbay.com and run. It installs for your user account only, so it does not ask for an administrator.
Installing
- Open flockbay.com and press Download Stage Engine. You do not need an account to download it.
- Run the installer when it finishes downloading.
- If your PC does not already have Microsoft’s WebView2 runtime, the installer fetches and installs it for you. Most Windows 11 machines already have it.
- Open Stage Engine when the installer finishes.
Why the download is large
Stage Engine ships with its own copy of the Godot engine, pinned to an exact version. That is what your game runs on, and it is why there is nothing else for you to install.
It is also most of the size of the download.
Updates
Stage Engine checks for a newer build once, shortly after it opens, and offers it to you in the app. Downloading, verifying and installing happen there, and the app relaunches itself to finish.
There is no background polling. The app menu carries a "Check for updates…" item if you want to look between launches.
The Mac and Windows builds carry different version numbers. They are separate release lanes, and a higher number on one platform does not mean the other is behind.
