# Install on Windows

Flockbay for Windows is a code-signed installer you download from flockbay.com and run. It installs for your user account only, so it does not ask for an administrator.

## Installing

1. Open flockbay.com and press Download Flockbay. You do not need an account to download it.
2. Run the installer when it finishes downloading.
3. If your PC does not already have Microsoft’s WebView2 runtime, the installer fetches and installs it for you. Most Windows 11 machines already have it.
4. Open Flockbay when the installer finishes.

## Why the download is large

Flockbay ships with its own copy of the Godot engine, pinned to an exact version. That is what your game runs on, and it is why there is nothing else for you to install.

It is also most of the size of the download.

## Updates

Flockbay checks for a newer build when it opens and while it runs, and offers it to you in the app. It downloads and verifies the update in the background, installs it when you press Update, and relaunches itself to finish; a version too old to keep working asks you to update first.

The app menu carries a "Check for updates" item if you want to look right away.

> Each platform’s build carries its own version number.
