Steam events and announcements that get seen
2 min read

A Steam event or announcement appears in several places at once: every follower's activity feed, the last two under your store page's DLC section, your Community Hub's feed and News tab, the game's Library page, and sometimes the top of players' Library home. You pick a category (such as Major Update or Patch Notes) that decides where and how it shows, schedule it, and can pair a major update with an Update Visibility Round. Body images display up to 800 pixels wide.
The free channel most developers use too little
Every player who follows your game, and everyone who owns it, can see your announcements without leaving Steam. It is the only marketing channel that reaches them where they buy and play, and it costs nothing.
Where an announcement appears
- Followers' activity feeds: every follower receives it.
- Your store page: the last two announcements, below the DLC section.
- Community Hub: the main feed and the News tab.
- The game's Library page, with an optional spotlight image, and sometimes the top of the Library home.
- An RSS feed Steam generates for the game.
- Featured event: for major events only, shown above each user's activity section for a while.
How to post one
Choose a category and sub-category first: it decides where and how the event shows. Write it, add images (JPG, PNG or animated GIF, shown up to 800 pixels wide), and publish now, at the event's start, or on a date. Allow up to an hour for it to appear in the Library after moderation. A start time in the past cannot be set or moved.
What to post
- Before release: devlogs, a demo, a festival, a date, so the page looks alive to visitors.
- At release: the launch, with what is in the game.
- After: every meaningful update, as a Major Update, paired with an Update Visibility Round when it is big.
Show the game in every post: a GIF or screenshot does more than a paragraph.
