Summer Engine pricing: a free app, and hosted AI from $20 a month

4 min readBy Eduardo Orellana · · Updated

We make Flockbay. Every other tool here was read from its own site on 25 October 2026.

Summer Engine's desktop app is free, and so is connecting your own AI agent to it over MCP; its hosted AI gives a free account 5 messages a day, up to 30 a month, and then costs $20 (Pro), $60 (Pro+) or $200 (Ultra) a month, or $16, $48 and $160 a month billed yearly. Everything here was read on Summer's own pricing page, terms and docs on 25 October 2026.

Summer Engine's plans and prices

The app, the editor and export are free on every plan. The paid plans add Summer's hosted AI, what it can make, and private projects, and they differ mainly in how much hosted AI they include. Paying yearly takes 20% off each paid plan.

Pro+ is the plan Summer marks Recommended, "for AI-led game building". Pro is the first plan that lists hosted 3D models, images, audio and video. Past Ultra, Summer's page says to talk to sales.

Summer Engine: Pricing.

Is Summer Engine free?

The app is. Summer's pricing page lists the desktop app, connecting your engine over MCP, and using the editor "to create and export games manually" as free, with no credit card. You own the games you make and can sell them without a paid account.

Its hosted AI is free only in small amounts. An account gets 5 hosted AI messages a day, up to 30 a month, and one-time welcome credits. After that, in Summer's words, "agent runs and generations pause until you subscribe or top up". So the honest answer is: free to build by hand or with an agent you already pay for, and paid for Summer's own AI past a few messages a day.

Students are pointed to the free app; for hosted AI in coursework, Summer asks you to contact it about educational pricing.

What happens when the credits run out

Each paid plan comes with a monthly allocation of AI credits. Its terms say included usage "resets each billing cycle" and unused credits "do not roll over", so a quiet month is not banked for a busy one.

Past the allocation, there are two outcomes. With on-demand spending off, hosted AI pauses until the next cycle or a top-up. With it on, usage is "billed in arrears", charged "at approximately $50 increments or at the end of your billing cycle, whichever comes first", up to a spending limit you set. Cancelling charges any unpaid on-demand usage at once.

Refunds follow the credits: used credits are not refundable, and a purchase you have not used can be withdrawn within 14 days. Cancelling keeps your plan until the end of the billing period. The terms were last updated on 16 October 2026.

Your own Claude or Codex works over MCP, not in Summer’s chat

If you already pay for Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor, the cheapest Summer setup costs nothing: the app and MCP are free, and your agent drives Summer's editor through it.

What you cannot do is put your own key behind Summer's own chat. Its docs say Summer "does not accept your own provider API keys for hosted generation", and that hosted AI runs on your plan's usage. To run your own model against a project, Summer's docs point you to the MCP server instead.

Which Summer plan fits

Stay on the Free App if an agent you already pay for does the building, or if you build by hand. Nothing in the editor or the export is held back.

Pro is for one bill that covers code and assets: it is Summer's entry point for hosted 3D models, images, audio and video. Pro+ is what Summer recommends when its hosted AI builds most of the game, with three times the limits. Ultra is for daily heavy use. Paying yearly saves 20% once you know you will stay.

The same budget in Flockbay

We make Flockbay, so read this part as ours. It prices the other way round: the hosted AI has a free tier you can build a game on. Every account starts with free hosted AI, and your own Claude or ChatGPT works inside the app's chat, as does your own agent over MCP or your own API key, at no cost from us. Paid plans add hosted usage and models: Hobby at $20, Indie Developer at $60 and Studio at $200 a month, billed monthly, with on-demand usage past the month only if you turn it on.

Where Summer is ahead on price: its paid plans generate 3D models on Summer's account, while Flockbay makes 3D models with Tripo only on your own Tripo key, and Summer takes 20% off for paying yearly, which Flockbay does not offer. The engines, builders and platforms are compared in Flockbay vs Summer Engine.
