How to run a game giveaway that brings real players

A giveaway that asks only for a follow brings people who want free things, not your game. Run it where your genre's players are (your Discord, a genre subreddit that allows it, a creator's audience), ask for something that shows interest, such as a comment on what they would like to see, and give a modest number of keys. Avoid requiring wishlists or reviews in return for entries, follow the platform's own giveaway rules, and check your country's contest rules.
Entrants are not players
A giveaway with thousands of entries can leave behind a few hundred followers who never open the game. A small one in the right community can leave behind people who play, post and review it.
Running it
- Hold it where your genre's players are, or with a creator who plays your genre.
- Ask entrants for a comment or answer that shows interest.
- Set a short window and a clear end date.
- Pick winners at random and post the result.
- Send keys personally, with a link to your Discord.
Rules to follow
Each platform has its own promotion rules; read them first. Do not make wishlists, reviews or ratings a condition of entry, which can break store rules and skews your numbers. Contest law varies by country, so state eligibility and that no purchase is needed.
