Boosting a post or running a campaign: which for your game?

Boosting a post (Promote on TikTok, Boost on Instagram and Facebook) pays to show a post that already exists to more people: quick, cheap to try, and it keeps the post's social proof. A campaign in the platform's ads manager gives control over the objective, the destination (your Steam page), targeting, placements and testing several creatives. Boost to test whether a clip travels; build a campaign once you know it does and want wishlists.
Boosting
- Minutes to set up from the app.
- Keeps likes and comments on one post.
- Limited objectives and targeting; often optimised for views or profile visits.
Campaigns
- Objective set to traffic to your Steam page.
- Several creatives tested against each other.
- Targeting, placements, schedule and budget controls.
- Can still use existing posts (Spark Ads on TikTok, existing posts on Meta).
Which, when
Boost small amounts to learn which clips travel. When one does, put it in a campaign aimed at your Steam page and measure extra wishlists.
