Which ad platform works best for indie games?

No platform is best for every game; the one where your genre's players spend time and where your clips already travel is the one to test first. Meta has the widest reach and mature targeting; TikTok rewards native-looking gameplay clips and reaches younger players; Reddit targets by community, which suits niche genres; YouTube suits trailers and reaches people watching your genre. Test one at a time, with the same budget and creative, and compare extra wishlists.

Test, do not guess

The same game can do well on one platform and poorly on another, and a different game the reverse. The only reliable answer is a fair test on your own game.

How they differ

  • Meta (Facebook, Instagram): wide reach, interest targeting, Reels.
  • TikTok: native gameplay clips, younger audiences, Spark Ads from posts.
  • Reddit: targeting by subreddit; niche genres; comments matter.
  • YouTube: trailers and Shorts; topic and channel targeting.

A fair test

Same creative adapted to each format, same budget, same week length, nothing else changing on Steam, and the result read as extra wishlists over your baseline.
