What the corner is for
An arcade racer forgives the corner so you can think about the car ahead. OutRun (Sega, 1986) is the road. Burnout Paradise (Criterion Games, 2008) is the crash you meant. A kart racer adds an item you did not earn with the racing line. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Nintendo, 2017) is an item game that has laps. Combat racing makes the weapon the result. Twisted Metal: Black (Incognito Entertainment, 2001) barely cares about position. If removing the weapon does not change who wins, call it a kart.
A drift racer scores the slide. Initial D Arcade Stage (Sega, 2001) is that score. A sim racer refuses the forgiveness. Gran Turismo 7 (Polyphony Digital, 2022) and iRacing (iRacing.com, 2008) want the apex, the brake and the tyre. Do not add a weapon to a car that will not turn. An anti-gravity racer takes the road off the ground. Wipeout (Psygnosis, 1995) and F-Zero GX (Amusement Vision, 2003) kill you for touching a wall. A grip model from the sim will feel broken, because it is the wrong car.
Not racing, filed here anyway
A football game is pass, space, shot. Rocket League (Psyonix, 2015) looks like cars and plays like this. Team sports is the same idea with a different ball: two small teams and one goal, and a pass that matters. Golf is a power meter and a read. What the Golf? (Triband, 2019) breaks the read on purpose. Skateboarding is a trick you have to land. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 (Vicarious Visions, 2020) is the combo timer. Individual sports is one repeated attempt with no opponent in the way.
A fishing game is cast, wait, strike. Sega Bass Fishing (Sega, 1997) is the arcade version. Dredge (Black Salt Games, 2023) makes the wait unsafe. There is no fishing page to send you to, and a racing page will not help. A sports manager does not play the match. Football Manager 2024 (Sports Interactive, 2023) is a tactic and a result you watch. One squad, one decision.
