CSGSphere in Godot 4: it is CSGSphere3D now

By Eduardo Orellana · Updated

CSGSphere is called CSGSphere3D in Godot 4, and every CSG node took the suffix: CSGBox3D, CSGCylinder3D, CSGTorus3D, CSGCombiner3D, CSGPolygon3D, CSGMesh3D. In a Godot 4 project, CSGSphere.new() fails to parse with Identifier "CSGSphere" not declared in the current scope. Did you mean to use "CSGSphere3D"?.

What Godot is checking

GDScript resolves every name when the script loads. CSGSphere is not a class in Godot 4, so the analyzer stops before anything runs, and because the name is in Godot's own table of Godot 3 renames, the message names the replacement.

The converter carries each CSG class to its 3D name. operation still sets union, intersection or subtraction against the parent CSG shape, and use_collision gives the result a collision shape for prototyping levels.

Reproduce it

A Godot 3 script that creates a CSGSphere in code, in a Godot 4 project.

extends Node

func _ready():
	var sphere = CSGSphere.new()
	print(sphere)

What Godot 4.7.2 prints

Godot Engine v4.7.2.stable.mono.official.ed1daf0bf - https://godotengine.org

SCRIPT ERROR: Parse Error: Identifier "CSGSphere" not declared in the current scope. Did you mean to use "CSGSphere3D"?

Fix it

A sphere subtracted from a box, the classic CSG doorway test.

extends Node3D

func _ready() -> void:
	var box := CSGBox3D.new()
	box.size = Vector3(2, 2, 2)
	box.use_collision = true
	add_child(box)
	var sphere := CSGSphere3D.new()
	sphere.radius = 1.2
	sphere.operation = CSGShape3D.OPERATION_SUBTRACTION
	box.add_child(sphere)
	print(sphere.get_class(), " r=", sphere.radius, " subtracts from ", box.get_class())

What the fixed script prints

Godot Engine v4.7.2.stable.mono.official.ed1daf0bf - https://godotengine.org

CSGSphere3D r=1.20000004768372 subtracts from CSGBox3D

Verified on Godot 4.7.2

Both scripts on this page were run headless on Godot 4.7.2 (4.7.2.stable.mono.official.ed1daf0bf) on 18 October 2026, and the output above is what Godot printed, unedited.

Questions

Should I ship CSG geometry in a game?
It is meant for prototyping. Bake it to a mesh (the CSG menu in the 3D toolbar) for the final level.
What is CSGBox called?
CSGBox3D.
