What the template starts with
The colony sim template starts with three colonists, one need each and one event. That is the smallest version of the loop that defines the genre: assign work, meet needs, weather the event.
What to change first
Give two colonists the same urgent job and not enough time. Someone should go hungry, flood a pipe, or miss the raid. If the schedule absorbs it, the event was too polite.
