How to turn playtest feedback into fixes

2 min read

By Eduardo Orellana ·

Turn playtest feedback into fixes in four steps: list every problem you saw or were told about, phrased as what the player did ("missed the door", "quit at the second boss"); count how many testers hit each; rank by how many and how badly; then fix the top few and test again with new players. Treat suggestions as clues to a problem, not as the fix. A short feedback form, below, keeps answers comparable between rounds.

Players tell you where it hurts, not where to cut

"Add a map" is a tester telling you they were lost. The map might be the fix; a clearer landmark might be better. Write down the problem behind every suggestion, then decide the fix yourself.

From notes to a fix list

  1. List each problem as a behaviour: "didn't find the jump button", not "controls bad".
  2. Count how many testers hit it.
  3. Rate severity: blocks progress, causes quitting, annoys, cosmetic.
  4. Rank by count × severity and fix the top three to five.
  5. Retest with new players to see if the fix worked.

A feedback form template

Keep it to two minutes:

  1. How long did you play? (minutes)
  2. What were you trying to do?
  3. What was confusing or frustrating?
  4. When did you want to stop, if at all? Why?
  5. What was the best moment?
  6. Rate 1 to 5: fun, difficulty (1 easy, 5 hard), clarity.
  7. Would you keep playing? (yes / maybe / no)
  8. Anything else?

Where Flockbay fits

Flockbay brings a playtest report back as something fixable: Fix with Flockbay turns it into a turn in the game's chat with the tester's note, the error and its backtrace, the scene, and frames from the screenshot or clip, and Reproduce replays the tester's input. Playtest links are free in beta until 1 December 2026.
