How many games release on Steam each year?

SteamDB counted over 19,000 games released on Steam in 2025, a record, up from roughly 18,500 in 2024; later counts for 2025 run higher as late releases and re-dated apps are added. That is more than 50 a day. SteamDB also noted that almost half of 2025's releases had fewer than ten reviews. The number of games is not the competition you face: most of them never reach the players who would buy yours.
Fifty a day, most unseen
The headline makes Steam sound impossible. But a game with a clear hook, a page that converts and wishlists before launch is not competing with the thousands that launched with none of those.
The counts
- 2024: about 18,500 games (SteamDB).
- 2025: over 19,000 by mid-December (SteamDB), a record; later tallies are higher.
Counts differ by source and date because apps are delisted, re-dated or re-released.
What it means for you
Pick a launch date away from the big releases in your genre, build wishlists first, and use festivals and Next Fest, where visibility is shared rather than bought.
