How to make a devlog video

To make a devlog video: pick one problem you solved since the last one; write a short script (hook, the problem, what you tried, what worked, what is next); capture clean gameplay of before and after with OBS; record your narration in a quiet room; edit it so the game is on screen the whole time; then title it by the problem, use a real frame as the thumbnail, and put your Steam page in the description.

The best devlogs are one problem long

A devlog that lists everything you did this month is a changelog. A devlog about one problem is a story: here is what was wrong, here is what I tried, here is what worked. Stories get watched to the end.

1. Pick the problem

Something you changed that you can show: a mechanic that felt wrong, a level that confused players, a performance fix, an art direction change. If you can show before and after, it is a devlog.

2. Script it

Five parts: a hook in the first ten seconds (the problem, shown), the context, what you tried, what worked, and what is next with a wishlist ask. Read it aloud; cut every sentence you stumble on.

3. Capture

Record gameplay in OBS at your game's resolution, 30 or 60 fps, with the HUD as players see it. Capture more than you need: before, after, and the failure. Hide debug text unless it is the point.

4. Narrate and edit

Record the voice separately, in a quiet room, close to the microphone. In the editor, keep gameplay on screen the whole time; cut to code or diagrams only when they explain something the game cannot. Add chapters for videos over a few minutes.

5. Publish

Title by the problem ("Why my enemies kept getting stuck"), thumbnail from a real frame of the game, Steam page link at the top of the description. Then cut a short vertical clip of the best moment for Shorts and TikTok.

Where Flockbay fits

Flockbay's Video studio does steps 2 to 4 from the game itself: its AI plays and films your Godot game on its own controls, writes the script from the chat that built it, narrates it (with one of its voices, or your own ElevenLabs voice) and renders a 1080p devlog with chapters and a text file of title and description. You publish it. Free in beta until 1 December 2026.
