Beginner guide

Beginner game idea to playable PC game

A strong beginner prompt gives Director 1 a game goal, a player action, a win or fail condition, and one feel direction.

Start with the player action

Instead of asking for a broad genre, describe what the player does every few seconds. Run from guards, jump across moving platforms, survive waves, collect parts, or solve a room.

Add one goal and one feel direction

A first prompt should say how the player succeeds and how the game should feel. For example: make the controls snappy, make the camera close, make enemies slow but dangerous, or make the level easy to read.

Use the first preview to ask for the next change

The first playable version will not be the finished game. Play it, then ask Director 1 for tighter movement, clearer feedback, a better enemy pattern, a new level, or a different character.
