# Unreal to Godot: rebuild your Unreal project in Godot 4

An Unreal project moves to Godot as a rebuild: actors and components become nodes, levels become scenes, and Blueprints and C++ become GDScript. Meshes export as FBX or glTF. Flockbay's AI reads your C++ and the Blueprint graphs you paste as text, and rebuilds the game in a Godot 4 project.

## The move is usually about size

Unreal is built for games the size of Fortnite, and it charges in disk space, build times and editor weight for that ambition even when your game is a small one. Most people who move a project to Godot have a small game in a big engine: a 2D game, a stylised 3D game, a game whose build takes longer to cook than to play.

There is no converter. Unreal's assets are .uasset files only Unreal reads, and its Blueprints are graphs, not text. But the parts that make the game yours, the meshes, the textures, the level layout and the logic, can all be brought out.

## Centimetres to metres, Z-up to Y-up

Unreal measures in centimetres with Z pointing up. Godot measures in metres with Y pointing up. Every position, speed and distance from Unreal is divided by 100, and every vector has its axes swapped, or a character that walked at 600 units a second sprints at 600 metres a second.

Meshes exported from Unreal as FBX or glTF come out in Unreal's scale and axes too; Godot's importer has scale and axis options, set once per asset.

## What maps to what

An Actor with components becomes a node tree: a Character becomes a CharacterBody3D with a CollisionShape3D, a MeshInstance3D and a Camera3D as children. A level becomes a scene. BeginPlay becomes _ready and Tick becomes _process. An Event Dispatcher becomes a signal, a Data Table a Resource, and Enhanced Input actions become InputMap actions.

The GameMode and GameInstance become autoloads. Behaviour trees become a state machine in GDScript, or an add-on such as LimboAI. UMG widgets become Control nodes.

Lumen and Nanite have no Godot equivalent. Godot lights with SDFGI, VoxelGI or baked lightmaps and draws dense meshes through automatic LOD, so film-quality meshes need decimating, and the look is retuned by eye.

## Bringing out Blueprints and C++

C++ in your Source folder is plain text, and the AI reads it directly. Blueprints are not: a .uasset is binary. Select the nodes in the Blueprint editor and copy them, and Unreal puts them on the clipboard as text; paste that into the chat, one graph at a time, and the AI reads the nodes, their pins and their links.

Export meshes and their textures from the Content Browser as FBX or glTF. Materials are rebuilt: a simple PBR material becomes a StandardMaterial3D with the same maps, and a node-heavy material becomes a Godot shader. Marketplace and Fab content comes under its own licence, and some of it is licensed for Unreal Engine only; check each listing before you move it.

## How Flockbay rebuilds it

Put the exported meshes and the Source folder where Flockbay can read them and open a new game. Tell Flockbay what you are bringing and how it plays, and paste the Blueprint graphs that matter. It writes a brief of what it rebuilds first and what changes on the way, and builds nothing until you approve it.

It rebuilds the levels as Godot scenes, imports the meshes at the right scale, writes the logic in GDScript, or in C# if you ask, and checks its own work by playing the game. Then you play it against the Unreal version and say what feels different.

## Questions

### Is there an Unreal to Godot converter?

No. Unreal's assets and Blueprints are formats only Unreal reads. Meshes export as FBX or glTF, C++ is text, and Blueprint nodes copy out as text, which is what Flockbay's AI rebuilds the game from.

### Can the AI read my Blueprints?

Not from the .uasset file. Copy the nodes in the Blueprint editor and paste them into the chat: Unreal copies them as text, with their pins and links.

### Will my game look the same in Godot?

Close, not the same. Godot has no Lumen or Nanite, so lighting is rebuilt with SDFGI, VoxelGI or lightmaps and very dense meshes are decimated. Expect to retune the look by eye.

### Can I use Marketplace or Fab assets in Godot?

Some, not all. Check each listing's licence; some content is licensed for Unreal Engine only.

### Is the result tied to Flockbay?

No. It is an ordinary Godot 4 project on your disk, which opens in plain Godot.
