# Godot versions and engines

Flockbay works with Godot 4.6+. It includes Godot 4.7.2 in its standard and .NET builds, and runs your projects on it. Your own Godot editors are listed in Settings › Godot versions, and a project from another version can stay on one of them.

## The Godot Flockbay includes

Flockbay includes Godot 4.7.2, the standard build and the .NET build. The editor, Play and Export run on it, and the export templates Flockbay downloads match it. It is pinned: updating Flockbay can move it to a newer Godot, and nothing else does.

A C# project runs on the .NET build. The first time a game has C#, Flockbay downloads the .NET SDK it builds with, about 300 MB, and builds with that rather than with a .NET you installed yourself. A GDScript project that adds a C# plugin gets a C# solution first, and the plugin’s card says so.

## Your own engines

Settings › **Godot versions** lists the one **Included with Flockbay** and the Godot editors Flockbay found on this computer, each as "Godot 4.3" or "Godot 4.3 (.NET)". **Another version** › **Locate…** adds one: choose the Godot executable, such as `Godot_v4.3-stable_win64.exe`. An engine that has moved shows "Not found at" and its old path, and **Remove from list** takes it off.

Flockbay uses your own engines for projects you keep on another version.

## A project from another Godot 4

A project last saved by an older Godot 4 gets a card with three choices:

> A project from a newer Godot gets Keep and Open a copy.

| Choice | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| Keep Godot 4.x | Opens the project as it is, on your own Godot of that version. On Godot 4.6 that is all of Flockbay. On an older 4.x, Flockbay checks which of its features run there and says what is not available. |
| Upgrade to Godot 4.7.2 | Upgrades it in place, which rewrites import settings and adds script UID files, as Godot’s own upgrade does. |
| Open a copy in Godot 4.7.2 | Makes a copy beside it and opens the copy; the original is not touched. |

## A Godot 3 project

**Keep Godot 3** opens it on your own Godot 3: your AI edits its files and runs the game, without the editor tools or the Game screen.

**Convert a copy to Godot 4.7.2** runs Godot’s own converter on a copy beside the original, which it only reads. It then loads every script, scene, resource and shader in the copy and lists what Godot 4 still reports, by file and line, with any file the converter skipped. A C# project gets Godot 4’s project file, with the Godot 3 one kept as `.csproj.godot3`; once Flockbay has downloaded the .NET SDK, its C# is built and each compiler error joins the list.
