# Cursor plus Godot vs Flockbay: two ways to make a Godot game with AI

Both routes end in a Godot project on your disk. The difference is who is doing the engineering. With Cursor, you are a programmer with a very fast assistant. With Flockbay, you are a designer and the AI is the programmer.

## Cursor plus Godot: you are the programmer

Cursor is a code editor with AI built in. Open your Godot project folder in it, and it reads and edits your scripts and scenes as files. Its Hobby plan is free, and paid plans start at $20 a month.

You install Godot yourself, run the game from the Godot editor, and bring errors back to Cursor. Adding a Godot MCP server lets Cursor run the game and read the errors itself.

## Flockbay: you are the designer

Flockbay is a desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux with Godot 4.7.2 inside. You describe the game; the AI asks questions a round at a time, writes a brief, and after you approve it builds the game.

It builds the world with world tools for terrain, water, sky, weather, plants and props, writes GDScript into the project, and plays the game to check its own work. You press Play and judge it, and the same world tools are buttons in the Godot editor for the calls you would rather make by hand.

## Where Cursor is stronger

Control over every line. If you know GDScript, Cursor speeds you up without changing how you work. It also works across any codebase, not only games.

Model choice. You pick among frontier models and can switch them per task.

## Where Flockbay is stronger

Not needing to read code. The app is built for people who judge the game, not the script.

World building. High-level world tools mean the AI is not assembling terrain from nodes, and the same tools are buttons around the Godot editor's view, so you can nudge its result by hand in the same window.

Scope. The brief step pushes back on ideas bigger than one person can make, before anything is built.

## You can mix them

A Flockbay project is an ordinary Godot project in a folder on your disk, so you can open it in Cursor. And an agent you run elsewhere can drive Flockbay's world tools over MCP, free.

## Cost over a year

Cursor plus Godot costs whatever Cursor plan you choose, with Godot free. Flockbay is free, AI included: free hosted AI every day, or your Claude or ChatGPT plan, your own agent, or an API key.

The larger cost in both is time. With Cursor, the time goes into reading and steering code. With Flockbay, it goes into answering questions, approving a brief and playing. Choose the kind of time you would rather spend.

## Which to choose

If you want to learn and own the code: Cursor plus Godot. If you want the game and would rather not touch the code: Flockbay. Both leave you with a real Godot project.
